Paraiba Tourmaline is also known as cuprian elbaite. It is named from the original local where it was discovered, a powerful vortex outside the town of Paraiba Brazil. Stones from this locale are one of the rarest gemstones in the world. Its rarity, beautiful neon-blue shade and its glow make it one of the most expensive semi-precious gemstones in the world. It sometimes appears to glow in the dark because of the copper that makes up this stone. A similar copper bearing tourmaline from Mozambique is also referred to as Paraiba Tourmaline even though its origin is in Africa. Both versions come in different colors of green, blue, and violet. The copper in this stone powerfully amplifies the sense of coolness and relaxation of the mind that is created by the energy of these colors.
